JOB TITLE: Airport Maintenance Technician
STATUS: 1 Position Full Time & 1 Position Seasonal (possibility of full time)
SALARY RANGE: $30.99 per hour + Living Allowance

POSITION SUMMARY
The Airport Maintenance Technician (AMT), under the direction of the Manager Operations Maintenance, will primarily be responsible for conducting maintenance, repairs and minor alterations to the Airport’s airside components in an effort to provide safe and efficient Airport Operations. This role will monitor the runway for Foreign Object Damage (FOD) on a continuous basis in an effort to keep the airside area safe, and will appropriately record and report FOD, as required. The AMT II is responsible to maintain and improve the conditions of the Airport’s airside components during all seasons, including: The removal of contaminants from surfaces; the inspection, control and removal of garbage and debris; and repairing and filling cracks and holes in paved surfaces. The incumbent is responsible to participate and qualify in mandatory Airport Maintenance Training and Certification and additional training, as required.


KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry Out Detailed Aircraft Movement Area Condition Inspections and Reporting By:
  • Physically inspecting all runways, taxiways, aprons and roadways.
  • Removing, reporting, and accurately recording FOD on a continual basis.
  • Identifying and calculating the extent of surface contaminants.
Maintain and Improve the Conditions of the Airport’s Airside Components By:
  • Conducting daily inspections of airside components.
  • Removing contaminants (e.g. snow and ice) from paved surfaces by shoveling, plowing, sweeping, and blowing.
  • Applying sand and other appropriate chemicals to surfaces to improve traction, as required.
  • Maintaining all surfaces, including: Asphalt, concrete, gravel and grass.
  • Attending to wildlife matters as they occur, including: Clean-up after incidents or using a scare gun.
  • Repairing cracks and filling holes in concrete and asphalt.
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fences, gates and signage.
  • Removing vegetation such as trees and shrubbery to eliminate hazards and to discourage wildlife from making the Airport their habitat.
  • Cleaning out ditches, applying herbicide and implementing erosion control methods, as applicable.
  • Painting airside components, as required.
  • Removing garbage and debris.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Inspecting equipment thoroughly, prior to use.
  • Refueling equipment upon completion of work.
  • Reporting any damage of the Airport’s property to the appropriate Authority.
  • Maintaining up-to-date and accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
  • Participating and successfully completing mandatory Airport Maintenance Training and Certification, as well as additional training, as required.
  • Becoming familiar with the layout of the Airport, its’ restricted areas, and the locations of navigational aids.
  • Understanding the Radio Operators Handbook.
  • Adhering to restricted area regulations, as well as other applicable Legislation.
  • Maintaining an organized work environment.
  • Conducting other duties, as required.
Requirements:
  • Criminal Check required with possibility to acquire and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
  • Class 3 Driver Licence with Q Endorsement
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma required.
  • College Diploma in General Maintenance preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of similar experience performing minor repairs, building inspections and exterior maintenance.
  • Two (2) years of experience in an airfield/aviation environment.
