Manager, Airside Maintenance
Greater Toronto Airports Authority

Reporting to the Associate Director, Airfield Operations this position is responsible for overseeing all maintenance related to airside areas. This position will work closely with Airfield Maintenance staff to ensure the effective coordination of all maintenance services and will address systemic issues to determine opportunities for ongoing improvement.

Job Description
Key Accountabilities: 
  • Manage, engage, coach and guide the Airfield Operations team to foster a unified and effective team environment to achieve group and individual accountabilities
  • Develop and manage annual budget and business plan aligned to the Corporate Strategic Plan
  • Work closely with and share accountability with Manager, Groundside Maintenance, Airfield Maintenacne Shift Manager and Manager Operations with regards to resources, budget requirements and goal attainment
  • Deliver strong work plans including planned and demand maintenance and project work, as well as managing the planned maintenance work plan related to airside areas
  • Support Airfield Operations Supervisors in implementing the planned maintenance work plan, daily FOD (Foreign Object Debris) Control and maneuvering and movement area snow removal plans including the provision of routine runway inspections and surface condition reports
  • Overseeing and performing workplace audits
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including the identification of any service shortfalls and opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive consistent use of SOPs to ensure service levels are achieved
  • Provide forward thinking and continual improvement related to airfield maintenance techniques and processes
  • Identifying requirements (staff, equipment, and material) to ensure that Airside Maintenance can deliver on the Strategic Plan
  • Coordinate with other divisions of Aviation Services and Airport Planning & Technical Services to deliver airside maintenance requirements i.e. Groundside Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance and Procurement, Airside Electrical
  • Oversight and management of all contracts related to Airside Maintenance, including friction remediation, rubber removal, snow removal services and asphalt supplies
  • Provide relevant information for performance measurement, KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and SLAs (Service Level Agreement)
  • Identify and repair airside surface deficiencies apart from rehabilitation work
  • Short term personnel resource support to Airside/Contingency bussing
  • Responsible for being a customer centric Leader with respect to the Mission, Vision, Values and Behaviours and Rules of the Runway

Job Requirements
Qualifications: 
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Business Administration or Aviation Management would be an asset
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a maintenance or operational environment
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management and/or supervisory role
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
  • Must have a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s License 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Proven ability to work in a matrix and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour relation principles and ability to manage a unionized workforce
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge of airfield systems and programs
  • Management skills and leadership ability to oversee and motivate teams with the ability to coach and mentor people
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate and negotiate with internal as well as with external stakeholders to achieve results
