Overview
The Daily Shift Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily ramp/baggage operations.
With a strong focus on safety and security, they will work closely with our ground handler and other partners to ensure our operational/performance KPI’s are met. They will be the WestJet representative day of to manage our relationship with our ground handling provider and external agencies. They will be responsible for identifying any areas for process improvements and working with the operational leadership team to identify solutions.

  • Daily oversight of the ramp/baggage operation and SPOT performance with a strong focus on Suncor and Encore operations
  • Provide strong and effective leadership while on shift to maximize safety and service at the lowest reasonable cost
  • Participate in shift briefings with Airport’s team, outlining any challenges and opportunities
  • Ensure GOSAP and Training bulletins are communicated to and implemented by ground handler and affected partners
  • Complete a daily shift summary report
  • Complete Incident / Accident investigations and AQD reports in accordance with WestJet and Airports procedures with support from the Ramp Manager and Duty Manager on shift
  • Complete audits on ramp crews’ including debriefs
  • Coordinate all IROP activities that occur at the station with the WS DM on shift
  • Provide recommendations to the WS DM on shift to maximize efficiencies and service at the airport related to ground operations
  • Communicate process failures/flaws and facility related issues to the Ground Handler’s management team, working to facilitate effective solutions
  • Demonstrate leadership through effective and ongoing communication, problem solving, style and culture
  • Participation in projects related to operational improvements as requested
Relationships:
  • Constant communication with Ramp Manager, WS DM’s, Ground Handler Management, and any other partner station support team regarding ground operations to ensure best practices are in place and executed daily
  • Continual feedback to Ground Handler and partner management, providing coaching and leadership/mentorship to ramp agents
  • Ongoing communication with the Ramp Manager, WS Duty Managers, Ground Handler, Baggage Guest Service Manager and Airport Support Team
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with external teams including members of the Airport Authority
Qualifications
  • 3+ years airline ground handling experience required
  • 2+ years leadership experience an required
  • Experience in all aspects of airport baggage and ground operations is required
  • Exceptional personal OTP and performance
  • Outstanding people skills, ability to mentor and motivate
  • Proven track record in leading by example
  • Proven history of affecting change through positive influence
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule 24/7/365 and travel for business meetings/training
  • Proficient in PC based applications, Word, Excel and Outlook.
